Notes

Winterfat (Krascheninnikovia lanata) is a shrub for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and dry soil of most types. The fuzzy foliage is pale blue, and silvery-white flower spikes appear on female plants only. You need a male plant nearby so the females will flower. Prune it back in early spring to keep it bushy.

Pairs well with Antelope bitterbrush, Prairie junegrass, Sego lily, and Red Velvet yarrow.
