Notes

Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis) is a perennial for shade gardens, ground cover, and low maintenance planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist soil of most types. A single white flower with yellow stamens opens in early to late spring. Red fruit follows in a tight cluster. A layer of fallen leaves over the bed in winter helps it.

Pairs well with Yellow trout-lily, White trillium, and Bloodroot.
