Notes
Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) is a perennial for shade gardens, pollinator gardens, and low maintenance beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to wet, loamy or clay soil. White flowers with golden centers open in early to late spring and attract bees. Rabbits rarely make it their first choice. Bloodroot spreads rapidly, so it works well as a ground cover around the base of trees.
Pairs well with Fringed bleeding heart, Goldenseal, and Western sword fern.

Eastern and central North America.
