Notes

Honey mesquite (Neltuma odorata) is a tree for low maintenance gardens and xeriscapes. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Tiny, fragrant yellow-green flowers open mostly in spring, and bees visit them. Deer tend to browse other plants first. Sharp thorns line the young twigs, so plant it away from paths.

Pairs well with American century plant, Turk's head cactus, and Aloe.
