Notes
Illinois bundleflower (Desmanthus illinoensis) is a perennial for borders, meadows, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Its fern-like leaves fold in strong sunlight and when touched. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. Small white flower clusters bloom in summer and in fall after rains, and birds like the seeds.
Pairs well with Poppy mallow, Buffalo grass, and Texas bluebonnet.
