Notes
'Jermyns Flame' black gum (Nyssa sylvatica 'Jermyns Flame') is a tree for specimen planting, rain gardens, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer tend to pass it by. Its columnar shape fits tight spaces, and it grows at a moderate rate. Bees and birds visit it, and it tolerates drought and salt.
Pairs well with Spicebush, Sensitive fern, and Indian grass.
