Notes
'Wisley Bonfire' black gum (Nyssa sylvatica 'Wisley Bonfire') is a tree for specimen planting, pollinator gardens, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It has a columnar shape and grows at a moderate rate. It sits low on the menu for deer. Bees and birds visit it, and it tolerates drought and salt.
Pairs well with Swamp white oak, Black chokeberry, and Royal fern.
