Notes

Largeleaf avens (Geum macrophyllum) is a perennial for meadow gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to moist soil. Clusters of small yellow flowers open on branching stems in spring and again in summer, and bees visit the blooms. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. It spreads by rhizomes and self-seeding, so give it room.

Pairs well with Switchgrass, Royal fern, and Fragrant sumac.
