Longleaf summer bluet (Houstonia longifolia) is a perennial for rock gardens, naturalized areas, and dry sandy spots. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry, sandy soil. Its basal leaves form clumps up to 1 foot high. The dainty, tubular flowers open in early summer and range from pale pinkish-white to purplish.
