Notes

'Massachusetts' common bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi 'Massachusetts') is a shrub for ground cover, rock gardens, borders, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 2, or down to -50°F (-46°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet, sandy or loamy soil. It creeps along the ground, reaching 6 to 12 inches tall and spreading 36 to 72 inches wide. Growth is slow, and the evergreen leaves give winter interest. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds visit the white flowers with a tinge of pink.

Pairs well with Lowbush blueberry, Red Wings moss phlox, and Hoopsii Colorado spruce.
