Paintbrush lily (Scadoxus membranaceus) is a bulb for containers and part shade gardens. It grows outdoors year-round in USDA zone 9 and warmer, down to about 20°F (-7°C). In colder areas, grow it as a houseplant or bring it indoors for winter. This plant likes part sun to full shade and dry soil. Red flowers with golden anthers open in early to late summer on stems up to about one foot high. Decorative red berries can stay on the plant for up to two months.
Pairs well with Dragon Wing Pink begonia, Genova dahlia, and Purple Sensation ornamental onion.
