Notes

Painted buckeye (Aesculus sylvatica) is a shrub for pollinator gardens, rain gardens, and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and average to moist soil. Cream, yellow, or red blooms open in early to late spring and attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. Deer rarely make it their first choice. The leaves show gold, orange, and red shades.

Pairs well with Blue wild indigo, Cherry laurel, and New England aster.
