Notes

Ohio buckeye (Aesculus glabra) is a tree for woodland gardens, rain gardens, and low maintenance landscapes. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to wet soil of most types. Its fall color is bright orange, and hummingbirds visit the flowers. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. All parts of the tree are poisonous if eaten, so plant it away from children and livestock.

Pairs well with Cinnamon fern, Sensitive fern, Spotted joe-pye weed, and Common snowberry.

Native range

Eastern United States and Canada.
