Notes
'Purple Gem' sweet box (Sarcococca hookeriana 'Purple Gem') is a shrub for ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes part sun. Small white flowers appear in winter and early spring with an intense, jasmine-like scent, and bees visit the blooms. Red stems contrast with the shiny dark green evergreen leaves. Deer tend to browse other plants first.
Pairs well with Snowdrop, Wood sorrel, and Spice bush.
