Notes
'Winter Gem' sweet box (Sarcococca hookeriana 'Winter Gem') is a shrub for ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade. Small white flowers with an intense fragrance open in winter and early spring, and bees visit them for nectar and pollen. Deer rarely make it their first choice. It spreads slowly by suckers, so it fills in over time.
Pairs well with Lady fern, Snowdrop, and Spice bush.
