Notes

Red feathers (Pontechium maculatum) is a perennial for rock gardens, borders, and hummingbird gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to average soil. Feathery spikes of russet-red flowers rise above low mounds of narrow, fuzzy, dark green leaves. It blooms for a long time, and deadheading helps it bloom again in late summer and fall. Hummingbirds visit it often.

Pairs well with Woolly yarrow, Fountain grass, and Rock rose.
