Notes

'Scarlet' bearded penstemon (Penstemon barbatus 'Scarlet') is a perennial. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and dry soil. Red tubular flowers hang from tall, upright stems from early to late summer, and hummingbirds and bees visit them. Remove spent flowers to encourage rebloom. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Paprika yarrow, Purple lovegrass, and Sego lily.
