Notes

Scarlet dahlia (Dahlia coccinea) is a perennial for borders and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Single red flowers, 3 to 4 inches across, rise on burgundy stems above finely dissected foliage. Orange and yellow blooms are also possible. Plants can reach five feet tall and look more relaxed than hybrid dahlias.

Pairs well with Phygelius, First Knight fountain grass, and Carmencita castor bean.
