Notes

Scarlet globemallow (Sphaeralcea coccinea) is a perennial for borders, meadows, and xeriscape gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Red-orange flowers appear in narrow clusters on densely white-hairy stems. Bees and butterflies visit the blooms. In shade the leaves turn thinner, less lobed, and bright green.

Pairs well with Blue grama, Rubber rabbitbrush, Soaptree yucca, and Sideoats grass.
