Notes
Sichuan pepper (Zanthoxylum simulans) is a tree for spice growing, small-space orchards, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun. The brownish red fruits are grown for Sichuan cooking, and the peppercorns leave a spicy, numbing feel on the tongue. Plants are male or female, so grow both if you want more fruit. The stems are spiny, so plant it away from paths.
Pairs well with Chardonnay grape, Ground cherry, and Indigo.
