Notes

'Sparkleberry' American holly (Ilex 'Sparkleberry') is a shrub for specimen planting, hedges, winter interest, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Greenish-white flowers open from spring into early summer and attract bees. Deer tend to pass it by. Birds visit the shrub, and the leaves show fall color.

Pairs well with Chokeberry, Little bluestem, Culver’s root, and Autumn fern.
