Notes

Spotted wintergreen (Chimaphila maculata) is a perennial for ground cover, shade gardens, and woodland plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and dry to average, sandy soil. Nodding, fragrant white flowers open in early to late summer, and bees visit them. The evergreen leaves are mottled with white, so the plant adds interest in winter and summer. Deer tend to browse other plants first.

Pairs well with Wild geranium, Lady fern, and Duke blueberry.
