Notes

'Superba' meadow bistort (Bistorta carnea 'Superba') is a perennial for borders, low maintenance beds, and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, loamy or clay soil. Pink flower spikes show up in spring, summer, and autumn, and bees, butterflies, and birds visit them. Deadhead spent spikes to encourage more blooms. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first.

Pairs well with Hardy geranium, Roma greater masterwort, Purple Sensation ornamental onion, and Red-hot poker.
