Notes

'Swallowtail' columbine (Aquilegia 'Swallowtail') is a perennial for borders, pollinator gardens, and woodland plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy or loamy soil. Yellow and lemon-yellow flowers open in early to late spring and again in early to late summer. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. Butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and birds all visit it.

Pairs well with Japanese forest grass, Autumn fern, and Oakleaf hydrangea.
