'Thunder and Lightning' macedonia scabious (Knautia macedonica 'Thunder and Lightning') is a perennial for borders, cutting gardens, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to average soil. Double magenta pincushion flowers float above light green leaves edged in creamy white. It blooms from early summer to autumn, and beneficial insects visit it for nectar. Deer tend to browse other plants first.
