Tolmie star-tulip (Calochortus tolmiei) is a perennial for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy or loamy soil. Its bell-shaped blooms are ivory-white with purple tinged centers and short silky hairs. The flowers sit atop erect, wiry stems above blue-green leaves at the base. Butterflies visit the blooms.
