Notes

'Venus' eastern sweetshrub (Calycanthus 'Venus') is a shrub for borders, specimen planting, hedges, and woodland gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. Its fragrant white flowers have purple and yellow center markings and open in spring and again in summer. Bees and butterflies visit the blooms. Deer rarely make it their first choice.

Pairs well with Lilac, Garden phlox, Bloodgood Japanese maple, and Bracken.
