Notes
Venus fly trap (Dionaea muscipula) is a perennial for containers, specimen plantings, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and moist to wet, sandy or loamy soil. It grows slowly in nutrient poor soil and catches insects with its folded, claw-like leaves. Two touches on the bristles make the leaf snap shut. White flowers rise on a leafless stalk above the rosette.
Pairs well with Blueberry, Ostrich fern, and Prairie dropseed.
Native range
North Carolina and South Carolina.
