Notes
Virginia round-leaf birch (Betula uber) is a tree for shade gardens, woodland settings, and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average moisture. It bears green female catkins and greenish-yellow male catkins from mid to late spring into early summer. In the wild, it grows on stream banks and flood plains in rich mesic forests, so a spot with rich soil suits it. The leaves turn a fall color before they drop.
Pairs well with Oakleaf hydrangea, Japanese forest grass, and Little brown jug.
