Notes

'Waysides Christmas Tree' American holly (Ilex opaca 'Waysides Christmas Tree') is a shrub for specimen planting, hedges, privacy screens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet, loamy or clay soil. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. It grows slowly into a conical, evergreen form. Greenish-white, fragrant flowers attract bees and butterflies, and birds visit the plant too.

Pairs well with Spicebush, Switchgrass, and Wild bergamot.
