'Albomarginata' European chestnut (Castanea sativa 'Albomarginata') is a tree for shade gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun, average moisture, and sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It blooms from early to late summer, and bees visit the flowers. Deer tend to pass it by. It also tolerates drought and salt.
