Notes

Japanese chestnut (Castanea crenata) is a tree for shade, screening, and wildlife gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and average to moist, loamy soil. It grows 30 to 40 feet tall and wide, so give it plenty of room. Yellowish-white flowers open in spring, and they draw butterflies and bees.

Pairs well with Hawthorn, Royal Star star magnolia, May Night salvia, and Buffalo grass.
