Notes
Alkali sacaton (Sporobolus airoides) is a grass for low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows in large, tough bunches with narrow, gray-green leaves that cure blond. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. It tolerates flooding, drought, and salty alkaline soil.
Pairs well with Little bluestem, Whorled milkweed, Spotted beebalm, and Blue grama.
