Notes

Blue elderberry (Sambucus cerulea) is a shrub for native gardens, informal screens or hedges, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry soil. Creamy white flower clusters draw hummingbirds and bees, and bluish-black berries follow. Raw berries are mildly toxic, but you can cook them and eat them. The plant stays smaller in dry conditions.

Pairs well with Wild privet, Purple lovegrass, and PowWow Wild Berry coneflower.
