Notes

'Sutherland Gold' red elderberry (Sambucus racemosa 'Sutherland Gold') is a shrub for borders, hedges, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet soil of most types. It grows fast into a dense shrub with fragrant white flowers in spring and summer that attract butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and birds. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. Give it plenty of room to spread.

Pairs well with Black chokeberry, Sweet pepperbush, Gooseneck loosestrife, and Nodding onion.
