Notes

Buttonwood (Conocarpus erectus) is a shrub for low maintenance planting and hedges. It grows outdoors year-round in USDA zone 9 and warmer, down to about 20°F (-7°C). In colder areas, grow it as a houseplant or bring it indoors for winter. This plant likes full sun and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Clusters of whitish flowers come first, and purplish-green, cone-like fruits follow. The scaly-ridged bark gives bromeliads and orchids a place to attach.

Pairs well with Seagrape, Florida fiddlewood, Island marlberry, and Coralbean.
