Notes

California polypody (Polypodium californicum) is a fern for borders and ground cover, and it needs little care. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. It grows 12 to 24 inches tall and spreads 24 to 36 inches. It sits low on the menu for deer. Give it room to spread in the bed.

Pairs well with Western redbud, Snake's head, and Mondo grass.
