Notes

'Charles Johnston' daylily (Hemerocallis 'Charles Johnston') is a perennial for borders, pollinator gardens, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, loamy, clay, or chalky soil. The cherry red blooms have a green throat and a light fragrance, and butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees visit them. It is not a favorite of rabbits, though hungry rabbits will eat almost anything. Drought tolerance makes it easy to grow.

Pairs well with American Gold Rush black-eyed Susan, Nodding onion, and Western sword fern.
