Notes

'Chocolate Cherry' Chinese astilbe (Astilbe chinensis 'Chocolate Cherry') is a perennial for borders, shade gardens, cottage gardens, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to wet, loamy, clay, or chalky soil. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. It forms a clumping mound with brown and copper foliage. Butterflies and bees visit the blooms.

Pairs well with Columbine, Halcyon hosta, and Western sword fern.
