'Clarion' carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus 'Clarion') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, containers, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by. Its yellow flowers are fragrant and open from early to late summer. Butterflies and bees visit the blooms.
