Notes

'King of the Blacks' carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus 'King of the Blacks') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, containers, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. Fragrant flowers open in spring and again in summer, and butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees visit them. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. The evergreen plants reach up to 24 inches tall.

Pairs well with Caradonna sage, Moonshine yarrow, and Silver feather grass.
