Notes

Coastal doghobble (Leucothoe axillaris) is an evergreen shrub for specimen planting, shade gardens, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to wet soil. White bell flowers hang in drooping spikes in early to late spring, and bees visit them. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. Cut it to the ground after flowering to rejuvenate it, and give it good air flow to prevent leaf spot.

Pairs well with Lady fern, Solomon's seal, Sweet bay magnolia, and Autumn fern.
