Notes

'Columnaris' alder buckthorn (Frangula alnus 'Columnaris') is a shrub for borders and hedges. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows slowly into a tall, narrow, erect form, reaching 144 to 180 inches high and only 36 to 48 inches wide. Whitish green flowers open in spring and again in summer, and they attract butterflies and bees.

Pairs well with Scentara Double Blue lilac, Sensitive fern, Compass plant, and Coyote willow.
