Notes

'Compacta' holly-leaved barberry (Berberis aquifolium 'Compacta') is a shrub for borders, hedges, specimens, and foundation plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average moisture. It sits low on the menu for deer. It grows slowly in a columnar shape and stays evergreen. Bees and birds visit it, and it blooms in early to late spring.

Pairs well with Lady fern, Autumn Frost hosta, and Northwind switchgrass.
