Notes

Holly-leaved barberry (Berberis aquifolium) is a shrub for borders, hedges, specimens, and woodland gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist soil of most types. Yellow flowers open in early spring and feed bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Protect the plant from drying winter winds.

Pairs well with Oakleaf hydrangea, Christmas fern, and Wild ginger.
