Notes

Drumstick primrose (Primula denticulata) is a perennial for borders, containers, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 2, or down to -50°F (-46°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. Round flower heads open in early to late spring, and butterflies and bees visit the blooms. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Plants stay about 12 inches tall and wide.

Pairs well with Common cowslip, Fringed bleeding heart, Dynasty tulip, and Checkered lily.

Native range

Central Asia and Asia.
