Notes

'Fastigiata' Japanese holly (Ilex crenata 'Fastigiata') is a shrub for hedges, foundation plantings, borders, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows slowly into a dense, upright form and stays green all year. Bees visit the spring blooms. Deer rarely make it their first choice.

Pairs well with Chokeberry, Foam flower, and Little bluestem.
