Notes

Fremont barberry (Berberis fremontii) is a shrub for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Yellow spring flowers give way to yellow to red berries that attract birds. The blue-green foliage is prickly, so give it space away from paths.

Pairs well with Cenizo, California brittlebush, and Autumn moor grass.
