Notes

'Ha Ha Tonka' little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium 'Ha Ha Tonka') is a grass for borders, meadows, rain gardens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It forms a clump 36 to 48 inches tall and up to 24 inches wide. Deer tend to browse other plants first. Purple-brown seed heads mature to silvery white, and butterflies, bees, and birds visit it.

Pairs well with Indian grass, Indian Summer rudbeckia, and Spotted joe-pye weed.
