Notes

Heartleaf milkweed (Asclepias cordifolia) is a perennial for borders, low maintenance beds, and woodland gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry, sandy or loamy soil. It blooms in spring and again in summer with red and purple flowers that butterflies and birds visit. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Plants stay 12 to 24 inches tall.

Pairs well with Allegheny spurge, Shenandoah switchgrass, and Elfin mother of thyme.
